Thank you Bainbridge Island! Over 130 of you showed up to our beaches and shorelines on Sunday, September 15 to help remove debris and make our environment healthier for wildlife and people!

Highlights included:

  • 21 tires were removed from our beaches (many of these are styrofoam filled and presumably have detached from marine bumpers or floats) and brought in for disposal
  • Jean Otto brought us a found message in a bottle (it was an ad for a heavy metal band out of Tacoma LOL)
  • feedback from volunteers reporting large amounts of debris collected this year included Fort Ward, Fay Bainbridge and south, Lynwood Center
  • A huge collection of trash was achieved by Ordway Otters and the Senior Center at Waterfront Park – and a special shout-out to Rep. Greg Nance who was helping out alongside!
  • An incredible job was done by Girl Scout Troop 41396, led by Maria Metzler, working in partnership with the Bainbridge Island Land Trust and Battle Point spit conservation easement landowners, to remove a remarkable amount of debris from the spit, including tons of glass, plastic, fiberglass from a wrecked boat, and more. If we missed you out there, let us know- send us your cleanup stories and photos to info@sustainablebainbridge.org
